HOW TO TAME FRIZZY HAIR

How To Tame Frizzy Hair

Dealing with frizzy hair and flyaways can feel like you’re always fighting a losing battle. Fear not, there are steps you can take and products you can use to reduce frizziness and have silky smooth hair instead.

But First, What Actually Is Frizzy Hair?

The protective layer of your hair - the hair cuticles - is a series of overlapping cells that face downwards (a lot like roof tiles!) Moisture from natural oils produced by your scalp or hair products that contain oils beneficial to your hair protect the hair cuticles by keeping all of these cells facing downwards. When hair becomes dry and damaged, such as when you use a lot of heated tools or you’re in a hotter country, these cuticles can become open and rough. This openness makes your hair vulnerable as it can allow moisture to escape the hair shaft while air enters it, which causes swelling in the cuticles. This is how frizz is formed!

Although a lot of frizz is caused by environmental factors, it’s important to remember that some people have naturally frizzy hair. If you have naturally curly hair, you may be more prone to getting frizz. This is because curly hair is often drier as the natural oils that your scalp produces can’t make their way down to the hair shaft like it could with straight hair.

How Can I Stop My Hair From Frizzing?

Although there’s a lot of factors that can dry out your hair and cause frizz as a result, there’s also a lot of things you can do to combat the frizz too. Here are some steps you can take to tame your frizzy hair:

Use Heated Tools Less To Tame Frizzy Hair

Using heated styling tools on your hair every day will definitely takes its toll. Try and find styles that you can achieve without using heat every day and make sure you’re always using a heat protectant spray whenever you do use heated tools.

Don't Wash Your Hair With Hot Water To Tame Frizzy Hair

Washing your hair with lukewarm water is much gentler on your hair and scalp. Washing with really hot water can cause frizz in the same way humidity does, by disrupting your hair’s cuticles.

Use A Hydrating Hair Mask

Adding a nourishing hair mask into your weekly haircare routine will give your hair the deep, hydrating treatment that it deserves. The FUL Intense Moisture Hair Mask can be used for 5 to 10 minutes or you can leave it on all night and wash it off in the morning.

The Intense Moisture Mask is designed to replenish dry and damaged hair, and with power ingredients shea butter and organic coconut oil, this mask will leave your hair feeling less dry and straw-like and more shiny and soft!

Don't Overwash Your Hair

Washing your hair more than you need to will remove the natural oils that are keeping your hair healthy. Make sure you’re washing your hair two to three times a week depending on how oily your hair is. You shouldn’t need to wash your hair every single day. After all, your scalp doesn’t go through all that effort of producing these oils just for you to wash them away.

Use A Microfiber Towel To Dry Your Hair

When towel drying your hair it’s important to be gentle. Roughly drying your hair with a nylon or cotton towel can really ruffle up your hair and cause avoidable frizz. Instead, dab your hair gently or wrap it in a microfiber towel to reduce friction.

Switch Out Your Nylon Bristle Brush For A Boar Bristle Brush

The close spacing of the bristles on a boar bristle brush will evenly distribute those all important natural oils from your scalp to the ends of your hair. This will make sure that the natural oils produced by your scalp will reach all of your hair and reduce the chances of frizz developing. Although nylon brushes have their positives, like being great for detangling, boar bristles are much better for preventing frizz.

Use A Smoothing Anti-Frizz Spray

If you live in a hot or humid part of the world then you’re probably no stranger to frizz. Or you might be travelling to a hot country and end up getting off the plane looking like Monica Geller (“It’s the HUMIDITY”). Whichever it is, there are products you can use to combat humidity induced frizz. The FUL Styling Spray reduces frizz and provides a strong hold so you can style your hair and look sleek without having to worry about flyaways.

Now you’re ready to fight the frizz, don’t forget to order your FUL Styling Spray and Intense Moisture Hair Mask
